Amersfoort Jazz focuses on the Next Generation of World Jazz, but also honors the pioneering Legends.
It supports young and exceptional talented musicians in exploring their artistic possibilities and collaborations, networking with international organizations and festivals, taking steps in their professional career.Amersfoort Jazz brings young talent into contact with legendary masters and lets them perform together on stage. In 2019, young saxophonist Kika Sprangers performed in duo with Artist in Residence Jasper van ‘t Hof. In 2020 young drummer Sun-Mi Hong is presented as Artist in Residence. Each year, in collaboration with JazzNL and Sena Performers, about 10 finalists of prominent music competitions worldwid are endorsed and presented to the public at Amersfoort Jazz. Not only do they give concerts and participate in jam sessions throughout the event, they are given the opportunity behind the scenes to fraternize with other musicians, from the Netherlands and abroad, and s network of international festival organizations.
Amersfoort Jazz honors the pioneering artists from the present and the past. Living legends are invited to perform during the festival, sometimes in unique combinations with young talented musicians. Over the years, great artists like Houston Person, Ronnie Cuber, Curtis Fuller, Toots Tielemans performed at Amersfoort Jazz. From the Netherlands we welcomed Piet Noordijk, Tony Vos, Cees Schrama, Louis van Dijk, Rita Reys and many more. Also the deceased stars of jazz are put in the limelight. Tribute concerts and lectures are given, films are screened to illustrate and honor the pioneering work and importance in the history of music of artists like Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Art Blakey and John Coltrane.
