Hirlian is a versatile drummer having studied across contemporary and classical strands and performed with many of Australia’s most renown musicians such as James Muller, Sean Wayland and Mike Nock. He currently performs in a variety of groups around Sydney pushing the boundaries of modern jazz with his inventive rhythmic approach and ability to combine a fluid mix of styles. Alex represents the forefront of young modern jazz from Australia. Alex was the youngest participant (and winner) of the prestigious National Jazz Awards competition in Wangaratta, Victoria 2018. His band Arcing Wires is a modern jazzrock group formed by five high energy players and much requested sidemen from Sydney. They play their own compositions influenced by Kneebody, Avishai Cohen and Donny McCaslin. Guitarist Felix Lalanne received “Equal 2nd” during the Montreux Jazz Festival Guitar Competition. The first album of this promising group will be released in August this year at Bali’s Ubud Village Jazz Festival.
