Amersfoort Jazz 2019 proudly presents its International Artist in Residence, American jazz singer Deborah Brown. She will perform with the Tribute to Dexter Gordon band, led by Eric Ineke, on Thursday, May 23 in theatre De Lieve Vrouw, but also on Friday, May 24, with the same group at the outdoor venue de Groenmarkt. On Saturday, May 25, the diva performs with Henk Meutgeert’s New Jazz Orchestra, also featuring master pianist Peter Beets and guest vocalist Georgie Fame.
Deborah Brown is one of many American jazz performers who found her greatest fame and recognition in Europe, rather than in the U.S. She gained her most important musical training while performing live, becoming a professional singer when she was 20. She spent 1985-1995 living in Europe, while touring the Far East, Japan and Indonesia. All in all she has sung in over 50 countries. She sung with such notables as Horace Parlan, Slide Hampton, Cedar Walton, Johnny Griffin and Toots Thielemans. She worked with Scandinavian orchestra’s, as well with Russian Siberians (like saxophonist Nikolai Panov) and in The Netherlands with the international acclaimed Beets Brothers and Eric Ineke JazzXpress.
