Celebrating life in all its shapes, forms and stages: that’s what this year’s Dutch Jazz Competition, Aviv Noam Quartet, aims for. When talking to these young musicians about their compositions, terms like humor, intimacy and organized chaos will likely fly across the room. Their focus is to refine and deliver a wide range of raw emotions.
Their influences can be traced back to avant-garde jazz legends of the 50s and 60s like Charles Mingus, Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy and John Coltrane. But, there’s more; you will identify and explore elements of classical music, contemporary jazz, Israeli music and Indian rhythms.
