A solo project as a bassist? Why not, thought Thomas Pol in the middle of lockdown frenzy. He tours around with the resulting album Blue Soil, but it’s not his first feat; in 2013, he won a scholarship at the New Orleans University and signed with Bubble Bath Records as their next “promising and upcoming artist.”
He returned to Rotterdam, delved into classical music, and joined the rebellious ensemble Pynarello. Meanwhile his love and dedication to the jazz tradition remained, inspired by colleagues Benjamin Herman, Jasper Blom, Stephanie Francke and Kika Sprangers. Dutch music blog Draai Om Je Oren called him a revelation in 2020.
