If it’s up to us, Peter Somuah is the next big name on the scene. Originally hailing from Accra, Ghana, Somuah learned to play by endlessly listening to trumpet legends such as Roy Hargrove and Miles Davis. His warm and melancholic sound and exquisite sense of rhythm and phrasing are just two of the things that make him stand out; Somuah himself claims it’s his upbringing in Ghana, surrounded by West-African music, that shaped him.

Once in the Netherlands, Somuah soon started working with artists such as Akwasi and Yung Nnelg. He won the Erasmus Jazz Prize and presents his debut, Outer Space, on Dox Records in 2022. Enjoy his dish of jazz, afro-funk and traditional Ghanese music at Amersfoort World Jazz Festival!
