Shimmering reed master Mihály Borbély developed his sound at the crossroads of Hungarian folk, world music, jazz and contemporary music, evolving to be one of Hungary and Europe’s most renowned players. His Kodaly-drenched playing garnered him some critical acclaim including prizes and decorations such as “Best Soloist of the Karlovy Vary Jazz Festival”, three eMeRTONs, the Ferenc Liszt Prize, countless JazzMa and MagyarJazz awards and many others.
His vast resume includes names such as Steve Coleman, Charles Lloyd, Herbie Mann, Branford Marsalis and the Saxophone Summit (Michael Brecker, Dave Liebman, Joe Lovano).
With his own Quartet at Amersfoort World Jazz Festival, he weaves elements of Carpathian and Balkan music in modern jazz and improv.
