The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw has put big band music on the map in the Netherlands. Since 1999, the orchestra has been the backbone of the jazz programming of the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, among many other venues in the Netherlands and abroad, with many tens of thousands of visitors each year. We see it as our task to make our cultural heritage of almost a century of Dutch jazz accessible to new generations. At the same time, we like to look ahead by working together with contemporary (jazz) musicians from all over the world.
The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw has won no fewer than two Edison Awards and has previously performed in China, Shanghai, Cape Town, Vienna, Santiago de Chile, Vilnius, Tokyo, Mexico City, Beijing and the United States.
The renowned big band regularly performs with world-class guest soloists including Toots Thielemans, Christian Scott, Roy Hargrove, Patti Austin, Oleta Adams, Kurt Elling, José James, Dr. Lonnie Smith and national artists such as Ruben Hein, Trijntje Oosterhuis and Sabrina Starke.
