Does anyone really still need an introduction to living legend Han Bennink? The percussionist, drummer, artist has long been recognized as one of the country’s most remarkable players. In the sixties, he accompanied American stars such as Sonny Rollins, Ben Webster, Wes Montgomery and Eric Dolphy, but has since chosen the path of free improvisation or, rather, instant composing. This movement, with Misha Mengelberg, Willem Breuker and the ICP Orchestra among its ranks, would see him turn into one of its most important torchbearers.
At Amersfoort World Jazz Festival this year, he will join forces with young guns; Gideon Tazelaar on tenor saxophone and Ian Cleaver on trumpet.
