Shakir Khan & Anubrata Chatterjee (IND)
Sitar player Shakir Khan is the youngest exponent (8th generation) of the illustrious ‘garana’ of Imdad Khan. Following in the musical footsteps of his prodigious father and guru — the sitar maestro Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, Shakir performed extensively worldwide, bringing the joy and subtlety of the Etawah Gharana to audiences in the US, Canada and Europe. During the festival Amersfoort Jazz, Khan will play traditional Indian raga with Anubrata Chatterjee, an eminent Indian tabla player of the Farukhabad gharana of Hindustani classical music. Anubrata (born 1985) is the son of world-renowned tabla maestro, Pt. Anindo Chatterjee. Anubrata has been conferred with the Basavaraj Rajguru Award in 2014 and prestigious, Sangeet Natak Akademi Yuva Award, 2016. He performs and teaches all over the world.
The duo plays at De Volmolen. This concert is part of the Amersfoort Jazz Heritage Walks. The 30 minutes sets of music start at 2:00 PM, 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
In the evening Khan & Chatterjee meet the Dutch versatile tenorsaxophonist Ben van den Dungen, dhrupad vocalist Marianne Svasek, innovative bassplayer Stefan Lievestro and leading jazz guitarist Ed Verhoeff, in a World Jazz Synergy concert at de Sint Aegtenkapel.
