Ntando Ngcapu is a South Africa born pianist raised in Soweto. At a young age, he enrolled at the Soweto Youth Music Development and exposed to music played at home such as choral and classical music. Later he explored Jazz music with his high school band while attending The National School of the Arts. In 2011 he was awarded a scholarship by The Berklee College of Music to attend their summer semester program. Ntando enrolled at the Tshwane University of Technology for Diploma in Music and graduated in 2015. In 2017, Ntando won the prestigious SAMRO Overseas Scholarship competition in the Jazz piano category gaining him recognition as one of the best pianists in the country. Ntando has performed alongside seasoned musicians such as Nono Nkoane, Beets Brothers, Mats Sandhal, Nils Landgren, Zwelakhe-Duma Bell Le Pere, Brenda Mau and Carlos Praia to name a few. He has performed in various bands including Nu Notes and the Orbit Big Band. Ngcapu performs at Amersfoort Jazz 2018 with the South African Laureates Band at De Groenmarkt (Saturday, May 26). Besides, Ngcapu is prominent during the International World Jazz Jam Session on Sunday, May 27.
