De Beren Gieren is an electro-acoustic World Jazz trio, formed by Fulco Ottervanger (piano and fx), Lieven van Pée (double bass) and Simon Segers (drums). It is said that De Beren Gieren are the most adventurous group in the Benelux. Since the birth of the group in 2009, four albums have been released, each well received in Belgium and The Netherlands and abroad. Magazine Jazzism named the third album of De Beren Gieren ‘One Mirrors Many’ “the most influential album of the year”. Last year their fourth album ‘Dug Out Skyscrapers’ was released. Their music contains a lot of space and silence, carefully nurtured in a symbiosis of almost abstract and etheric soundscapes. De Beren Gieren performed all over Europe, at festivals like North Sea Jazz, Trondheim Jazzfest, Middelheim, Ljubljana Jazz and Jazzahead! Bremen. De Beren Gieren is an exponent of the so-called New Wave of Belgian Jazz, presented at the festival Ancienne Belgique in Brussel (December 2017) and at Amersfoort Jazz Festival in May, 2018. The trio received awards at B-Jazz international competition for young, talented jazzmusicians, as part of the Leuven Jazz festival (formerly known as Jazz Hoeilaart). De Beren Gieren will perform in the Belgian Focus Night at Amersfoort Jazz Festival, May 26 2018 in theatre De Lieve Vrouw.
