Each year, the annual Dutch World Jazz festival Amersfoort Jazz presents special Artists in Residence from The Netherlands and abroad. The Artists in Residence perform with several acts on several stages throughout the four days event in the city of Amersfoort. Over the years Amersfoort Jazz has welcomed Gino Vannelli, Houston Person, Deborah Brown, Ronnie Cuber and Eric Alexander from the USA, next to Rits Reys, Eric Vloeimans and Jasper van ‘t Hof from the Netherlands. This year, renowned bassist Essiet Okon Essiet from the USA would have been International Artist in Residence, but this did not proceed because of the COVID crisis. Young Amsterdam based drummer Sun-Mi Hong from South Korea is this years National Artist in Residence, playing at the theatre on November 21 with Alto for Two and November 22 with the Sun-Mi Hong Quintet.
Amersfoort Jazz proudly presents Sun-Mi Hong as its National Artist in Residence during the 42nd edition of the annual festival in 2020. In the original format of the festival in May, the young Korean Amsterdam based drummerwould perform four times during the festival, spread out over the four days in the historic center of Amersfoort. Due to the measures related to the COVID crisis, the festival will be an online edition in November and the number of more than 80 indoor and outdoor concerts spread over 18 locations, is reduced to 19 concerts in two locations. Sun-Mi Hong still plays a prominent role, on Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22.
